Hello Friends, and welcome. I know that you could have gone to an infinite number of other sites, and this may just be one out of 50 blogs you will visit today, so the fact that you stopped here (if only for a moment) gives me a real reason to make this time for you well worth it.
What is The Whole Person? It is you when you maximize your potential by focusing on the critical building blocks that make us all who and what we are, namely:
Relationships
This is an important and challenging topic for me because I went through a divorce which was devastating and (Warning: impending cliche) I wish I had known then what I know now about male/female relationships. I believe I could have saved my marriage, or I would have avoided the marriage in the first place. Either way, I would have been spared that brutally painful experience (something I would not wish on my worst enemy). Now, I’m a single father with visitation so it’s extremely important to me to have the right relationship with my son. And, I want to be better prepared should I decide to enter into marriage again someday. I want to help you improve your personal or professional relationships here at The Whole Person and learn with you as we go.
Spirituality/Christianity
I invite you to come back to this category often to re-charge your spiritual batteries. I happen to follow the Christian faith with belief in Jesus Christ as my (very patient and forgiving) Lord and Savior and I’m blessed to worship at Riverside Church of Christ. That said, I assure you that the purpose of this category is not to try to convince you of my beliefs, convert you from your existing religion/denomination, or even debate any spiritual, religious or doctrinal issues. I simply want you to be uplifted here and maybe get you to pause and reflect (Psalm 46:10: Be still and know that I am God) by reminding you about some of life’s deeper truths.
Health
I will have a lot to say in this area. I’ve been a gym-rat for a long time with a membership at Red Lerille’s for almost 20 years. I’m not a personal trainer (but I was married to one) or a competition bodybuilder (although I have trained with a few, including two Mr. Louisiana’s), but I am a self-taught fitness freak that often gets asked by friends and family to help them with their health and fitness goals.
What you may want to know about me (for credibility in this area) is I am 5′9″ tall, and at age 38, I weigh close to 180 lbs. while maintaining about 7 - 8% body fat. I have scholiosis - a curvature of the spine that can act up and cause some real discomfort from time to time, so I’ve had to build my body around that challenge. At age 29 I was in a severe car wreck which should have killed me, but by the grace of God, only left me with a little internal bleeding, a concussion, and a dis-located clavicle. I lost 40 lbs in the following 6 months as I was home-bound and in physical re-hab. But in one year, I was back to 180 lbs. and my normal 7 - 8% body fat with all my pre-car wreck strengh and vitality. The doctors said it was my level of physical fitness which saved me from being killed in the wreck…I say it was that and God.
Here I’m excited to be sharing tips on exercise, diet, rest & relaxation, medical treatments, and all kinds of other things related to your good health.
Financial
Another broad topic that I have some expertise in. Working as a financial services professional for 10 years, I’ve seen some of the best, and worst, years in stock market and real estate. I’ve also had the opportunity to be exposed to a plethora of financial concepts, philosophies, planning methods, and products. We’ll discuss a whole bunch of them here.
Psychology
I have a confession. I almost became a psychologist. It was my first (of 3, stop laughing) declared major in college. I decided against it as a profession, but that doesn’t keep me from playing “pop-psychologist” with people for some thought-provocing conversation.
I’m insatiably curious about what makes myself and others tick. More than that, the diversity of people’s thought-processes amazes me. Visit “Psychology” here to experience some “ah-ha!” moments about why people are the way they are, say the things they say, and do the things they do. It’ll be fun!
I Need Your Help
My sincere request to you is to submit Comments to any and all of the posts here at The Whole Person, while keeping in mind the purpose of providing useful and relevant information to visitors in each of the above categories. If you have original material or a discussion which is approved and posted, you will of course get credit and linked for it, but if you just want to share an article or link for someone else, that’s great too…as long as it’s useful and relevant.
Thank you in advance,
Shayne Hall
